About this record
Hamas and the groups that joined the October 7, 2023 attack did not take only living hostages. They also carried the bodies of people they had killed back into the Gaza Strip, to be held as bargaining chips in future negotiations with Israel. Soldiers killed at the border posts and festivalgoers murdered at the Nova music festival near Re'im were among them.
In this recording, made in Gaza on the day of the attack, the men holding the two bodies film them: a male Israeli soldier and a young woman who had been at the Nova festival.
Over the following months and years, Israeli forces recovered a number of bodies in operations inside Gaza, and others were returned during the ceasefire exchanges. For the families, the return of a body was often the first certainty they had about what had happened on October 7.
